2.2.3.1. Engine oil and oil filter

GENERAL INFORMATION

Frequent replacement of engine oil and oil filter are the most important operations of maintenance which the motorist has to carry out. Over time engine oil becomes polluted and less dense that results in premature wear of the engine.

Replacement

Before this operation prepare all necessary tools and materials. Also prepare a large number of pure rags and newspapers to wipe the leaked oil. It is the best of all if engine oil is warm as in this case it flows down quicker and carries away with itself more carbonaceous deposits. During the work under the car be accurate and do not concern exhaust pipes or other hot mechanisms of the engine. When replacing oil it is recommended to wear gloves to prevent burns and to protect skin from irritants or other harmful substances which can contain in old engine oil.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If it is necessary, for improvement of access to an oil filter and a cap of a drain opening of an oil case turn off fixing bolts and remove a protective guard from below of the engine.
2. Remove a cap of a jellied mouth from a cover of a head of the block of cylinders.
3. By means of a wrench or, better, a key with a cap head, turn off a cap of a drain opening approximately half way. Establish capacity for collecting oil under a cap, then unscrew a cap.
Prevention

After untwisting of a cap get it from an opening the sharp movement in order that the oil stream from an opening began to flow in the prepared capacity, but not in your sleeve.

4. Wait until oil flows down. Do not forget that, perhaps, you should move the capacity when the stream oil decreases, and it will begin to flow down separate drops.
5. After all oil was merged, wipe a cap of a drain opening and a sealing washer a pure rag. Examine a sealing washer and replace it if it is scratched or damaged. Clear area around an opening for discharge of oil and twirl a cap into place, having established a sealing washer. Reliably tighten a cap.
6. Establish capacity under an oil filter which is located from the forward party of the engine, on the right or left side.
7. Get an oil filter from a casing and wait until oil flows down in a container.
8. Use the tool for removal of an oil filter to begin untwisting of the filter, then turn off it a hand up to the end. Pour out oil of the old filter in the prepared capacity.
9. By means of a pure rag remove all traces of oil, dirt and carbonaceous deposits from a casing of an oil filter on the engine.
10. Oil pure engine a sealing ring on the new filter, then twirl the filter into place. In the beginning twirl the filter a hand. Do not use any tools!
11. Remove the container with the merged oil and all tools from under the car, then if it is necessary, establish the lower protective guard of the engine and reliably tighten its fixing bolts.
12. Fill in in the engine new engine oil of the required type and viscosity through a jellied mouth in a cover of a head of the block of cylinders. Fill in a half of the required amount of oil and wait that it flew down in an oil case. Continue to add oil in the small portions until the level of oil rises to the mark MIN in the probe. After addition about 1,0 liters of oil its level will rise to mark MOVE in the probe.
13. Start the engine and let's it work within several minutes, checking for existence of leak of oil around consolidation of an oil filter and a cap of a drain opening. Do not forget that the alarm bulb of low pressure of oil on an instrument guard will go out not at once but only in several seconds as new oil has to get into all oil channels and an oil filter before its pressure increases.
14. Kill the engine and wait several minutes until oil gathers in an oil case. After that, oil will impregnate an oil filter and will get into all oil channels, check oil level by means of the probe and add oil if it is necessary.
